2003 - Jayco Kiwi 23B

In October of 2002 after 4 great camping seasons in our Rockwood pop-up we decided to sell it and purchase a hybrid. We had been looking at them for about two years and had narrowed it down to the Rockwood Roo or Jayco Kiwi. After some more research via RV Shows and the Internet, we decided that the Jayco Kiwi 23B fit us the best. It seems to have more useable storage space than the Rockwood and we liked the interior and exterior colors more. Another factor in our decision was price. The Rockwood was $13299 and the Jayco with the same options came in at $12999.

We took a drive out to Haus of Trailers in White Lake, MI to take a closer look at the 23B. A salesman named Greg Jones showed us the trailer and talked about the optional features offered. We really liked the Kiwi, but we couldn't purchase one until the pop-up sold. Until then all we had was a brochure.

Approximately 2 weeks later the pop-up sold. So we called Greg up to finalize the deal. Bad news.... They didn't have any 23B's left on the lot after the RV Show in Novi. Good news was.... Greg was was able to find us a brand new 2003 Kiwi 23B at the factory. It was in our driveway 5 days later. I would say our experience thru Haus of Trailers was a good one.

A week later we got out for our maiden voyage and broke her in at the Pinery in Ontario Canada. We really enjoyed the trip and our decision to move to the Kiwi was definitely the right one. Set up is less work and quicker than our old pop-up. Check out the links to the upper left for more information or hit "Our Trips" page to see where we've been in the Kiwi.

One Year Update

October 28th, 2003: Well we have really enjoyed our kiwi this past year. The convenience of the freezer, microwave and bathroom have really made our trips a bit more fun. The easier set up compared to our pop up has also added more enjoyment hours for me. Despite any problems we may have had, we are really happy with our Kiwi. We love the floorplan and it has really turned into a home away from home.

DEALER SERVICE: We took the Kiwi into our dealer to fix the problems we've encountered.(10/25/03) Our first experience with Haus of Trailers service department was a good one. Everything went very smoothly. I dropped off our trailer with a list of issues and was told it would take three weeks to repair everything. We were in no hurry to get it back, because winter is on the way and we are done camping for the season. I picked it up exactly 21 days later. I was actually quite surprised. All repairs were made and things look good. See you next season! (11/14/03)

Two Year Update

November 5th, 2004: Our kiwi has been flawless over the last year. We have really enjoyed camping in it, especially in April and October when it's chilly out there. We put on 1300 miles towing this year and they have all been smooth. (thanks to the Equal-i-zer) The flooring, cabinets, water system, electrical, etc. has held up to everything we throw at it. One hiccup or inconvenience we discovered is the kitchen outlets are all on one circuit. So when you run a coffee maker, toaster, and an electric heater the circuit blows. No big deal we just move the heater to a different outlet. Maybe in the future I will add another outlet on it's own circuit just for the heater. Well, that's all for now folks! =)

Three Year Update

November 8th, 2005: Well the Kiwi is still operating flawlessly. Over the last year we have only had one problem and that was caused by my daughter who broke a cabinet door. We are still enjoying the trailer and the layout was definately the right choice for our family. We only put 900 miles on this year due to the many kids activities that we have had, but we still got out there 5 times and had a great time. The kiwi is winterized now and sadly sitting in storage ready for snow. See you next year folks! =)
