Vintage Camper Enthusiasts to Gather in June at P.J. Hoffmaster State Park

Take a step back in time and relive those childhood memories of summer camping by attending the Vintage Camper Gathering and Open House set to take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 9 at P.J. Hoffmaster State Park in Muskegon.

Camp along the lakeshore and take a nostalgic tour around the park while visiting with other vintage camper enthusiasts from across the Midwest. Club members from the Tin Can Tourists and Tear Jerkers will be displaying their vintage trailers. Join in the fun, sit and reminisce, make a craft item or play an old-time game.

All reservations are welcome; however owners of vintage or unique camping equipment who would like to participate in the open house are encouraged to make early reservations in order to secure a spot in or near the already reserved sites of 174 through 230. A Recreation Passport is required for vehicles entering P.J. Hoffmaster State Park. The Recreation Passport has replaced motor vehicle permits for entry into Michigan state parks, recreation areas and state-administered boating access fee sites. This new way to fund Michigan's outdoor recreation opportunities also helps to preserve state forest campgrounds, trails and historic and cultural sites in state parks, and provides park development grants to local communities.

Michigan: Campout #5 - Alcona Park - August 24-26

Seeing as how we weren't able to attend the outing we co-hosted at Alcona Park last September , we're going to try this again. We will be hosting at Alcona Park the weekend of August 24-26. We're looking forward to it!

"Located on the historic AuSable River floodwaters above the Alcona Dam in Glennie, MI, this 1100 acre park has three miles of shoreline on each side of this trophy fish producing river. Surrounded by the Huron National Forest and is a favorite home away from home for many vacationers. The river provides quality fishing of Walleye, Pike, Perch, Bass and Trout. Canoeing, boating, swimming, fishing, hunting and wildlife viewing are all popular activities for visitors. Over 450 campsites available."

Reservation Info
To Be Determined: The campground office is not open for reservations until April 1st. I've set myself a calendar reminder, and I'll be contacting them asap to have a block of sites set aside for the group. More info to follow on reservations after I am able to talk to someone at the park.

We used to camp at Alcona quite a bit, but it's been a few years. We're really looking forward to getting back! If you have any questions about the park or the outing please don't hesitate to ask here or send me a private message. We hope to see you there!

Hey kids! It's the sort of annual Friar Tuck/Hooiser Honey Come Along weekend at Sleepy Hollow SP in Laingsburg, MI June 8 - 10, 2012.

Saturday is the TriCounty Bicycle Association 100,000 Meter T-Shirt ride, followed by a couple of hours of paddling on Lake Ovid, a nice calm no wake lake. I have a couple of buddies going to ride with us this year (so far at least) so come on over and join the fun!

We'll be on site 79 on the North Loop

Thanks to all for the organizing, good food and large camp fires!
The group managed not to intimidate/scare away any of our newbies.....both families
said they'd like to come back next year.

I thought this was going to be our last hooray of the season....but some have been
talking one more trip to Algonac in November......so......any of you brave souls up for
some real "cold weather" camping let me know.

Pancake Breakfast: Sunday 9am - Pavilion (set up @ 7:30)

This years Boo Bash Pancake Breakfast will be held at 9:00 AM on Sunday. Please have food at pavillion by 8:55. If you will be participating please sign-up with what you would like to bring and number of people attending including guests. Bring your own silverware, plates and cups.

Boo Bash Pot Luck Poll

I know there has been some debate on when to have it. This year I think it will stay Saturday at noon for those who want to participate. Friday evening don't work for many of us that have a ways to travel and can't get out of work or school early. Poll will be open until 10/7. That should give enough time to post what you will be bringing after the poll is closed.

Please bring your favorite bottle of wine or whatever you most enjoy drinking. Cheese, crackers, and other munchies will be appreciated. Please bring a glass or cup to drink from along with a plate and a chair.

SATURDAY MORNING:
Coffee and coffee cake probably lasting from <7am until 10am
40-cup coffee maker urn going. Please bring your favorite flavored coffee cream, sugar, coffee cup, etc. Bringing your breakfast over too would be just fine. If people want to do a potluck type of breakfast, that would be great also. We can discuss that Friday evening.

SATURDAY EVENING:

Even if you don't think you'll need a 3-night reservation, grab one up so you are assured of having a campsite close to our group. Then, you can ask on this thread whether any of the 2-night people would like to use your campsite on Thursday night. You can work something out with them regarding the cost. Heck, even if you eat the first night of a 3-night reservation, you are still spending a lot less than you would at a hotel and with us, you'll have a lot more fun!!!

Also, if any people currently with 2-night reservations want to change to a 3-nighter, do so while there are still some available. You can pay me for the 3rd night then I'll release your original 2-night reservation to someone else who can only arrive on Friday rather than Thursday.

Don't wait. Reserve one of these campsites.
