Ill. campsite reservations go online
Comments

June 8, 2010
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources will no longer take reservations for campsites, cabins or picnic shelters through mail or on the phone.

Instead, the department says that starting July 7 reservations for 2010 can be made online for most campsites and other facilities, including 67 Illinois state parks and other state sites. Online reservations for shelters can be made online for 51 sites.

Department director Marc Miller says the new online reservation system is more convenient and visitors will "be certain there is a campsite waiting for them."

Reservations require a $5 nonrefundable fee.

http://www.reserveamerica.com

http://www.dnr.state.il.us/lands/landmgt/PARKS/

What fun at the koa

Just wanted to take a moment and comment on our first outing of the season. Though not our style of camping we had a good time. We forgot a bunch of stuff though were close enough to Walmart to make a couple Quick trips. Since we had left the waffle iron at home we asked the koa owner Rob about the best place to grab a bite for breakfast. One of his suggestions was Ross and Rosies in Chebanse......we were not dissapointed at all, huge portions ,great place....but definatly a locals joint............the local town gossip was there and she was entertaining to listen too. The sites are a little close for our tastes but there were very few campers that weekend so we had a lot of room to ourselves. The weather was a bit dissapointing, we actually had to open up the popup on both side for fear we would be blown over it was so windy.Met some great folks that camp there every weekend.,.......we had told them about forgeting evrything, and they were nice enough to bring us dinner........burgers and dogs. Though we had enough to make due with, this was a great gesture on their part. All and all we had a great time , even went to the theatre in Kank to see " how to train your dragon". the weekend will live on in my mind as one of those times were everyone got along..though not all the time......lol
I would recomend this campground, volleyball , swimming pool (though not open yet) playground.all and all a great place for the price.Much more to comment on but this post is long enough, hope to see everyone soon
Jay

We've been camper shopping and will be attending the Rosemont Camper show for the first time to gather more ideas. We hope to buy a used pop-up in the spring, and want to get a sense of the dealers and new equipment.

The question for those of you who've attended in the past is this: What's the least crowded time of day to attend on a weekend?

Our dd has special sensory needs, and we want to make our experience at the show as easy on her as we can. We can't leave her with a sitter, so we're bringing her with our son as well. I'm guessing the best time might be somewhere in the 2pm-6pm range of time on Saturday? Or maybe the same time on Sunday?

Please let me know what you feel is probably the least noisy and crowded (I understand it will be somewhat crowded and noisy at all times, just looking for the least of both).

Me
dh
dd '96
dd '02

2010 IL Outing #5: Lake Le Aqua Na State Park August 20-22

We tried to head to this park last year, but Mother Nature had other plans. Being early in the year, it was maybe a bit too far north so early in the season. This year we'll try again, during typically more temperate times.

Lake Le Aqua Na State Park is located just outside the little town of Lena, IL between Freeport and Galena. Just East of the Stagecoach Trail, the drive from Lena to Galena is simply breathtaking, but don't get too distracted by the views, it's a winding, twisting, turning journey back to the time of the great explorers.

Pedestrian and Equestrian trails wander throughout the property of this park. Additionally, there is a small beach and swimming area in the lake. Fish are plentiful in the lake, so don't forget your fishing poles.

Campground Information: http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/Landmgt/PARKS/R1/LEAQUANA.HTM

Reservation Information: Reservations are ONLY taken for the Youth Camp and the Shelters.

RV, tent, equestrian and youth groups are all accommodated in the various campgrounds. While there are just a few secluded sites, the majority are open and spacious with adequate shade available on most.

Campground Map: http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/Landmgt/PARKS...lan_campmap.pdf

We should be targeting sites near the shower building, preferably in the 12-34 range.

Located, oddly enough, in Morrison, IL, this park is nestled south of Galena and Savanna, IL and just a bit East of the Mississippi river. Adventures in this part of the state are numerous with quaint towns dotting the landscape and majestic views throughout the area.
